Interior design and architectural projects get a boost in Qatar

Following FIFA’s decision to hold the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the surrounding region’s resilience to the current recession, the country has received much attention from a wide variety of foreign organisations and ranked 17th on a Global Competitiveness Report in 2010.

On a domestic level, a brief insight into the government’s future development plans reveals a nation dedicated to increasing spending whilst reducing interest rates – thus displaying its potential to realise the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Assessing the projected construction outlook of countries like Qatar is no longer dependent on apprising the sometimes scant historical spending on infrastructure. Although the construction sector has seen a slight retardation, many governments including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar have prioritised their major infrastructure projects and are exercising tenacious advancement.

There is however, an immense need to understand the challenges in sourcing materials, and developing the skills needed to execute and implement large projects such as the iconic football stadiums to be erected across the country.

With the aim of connecting a variety of industry specialists, the 3rdAnnual Concepts Middle East, produced by leading French business information company naseba, is taking place on February 22nd and 23rd 2012 at the Renaissance Doha in Qatar. It is hosting up to 100 leading architects, interior designers and construction consultants all involved in high profile projects across the Middle East, with a focus on those in Qatar’s progressive construction industry.

“We strongly believe that planned projects will be continually supported by each respective government and government entities across the region – and Qatar in particular – in light of the Qatar Vision 2030. I believe the 3rdAnnual Concepts Middle East is certain to attract the leading players in the interior design industry,” explained Fabien Faure, naseba Managing Director.

The two-day platform has already confirmed several industry expert speakers, such as Kevin Underwood, Vice President and Principal, AECOM Design + Planning; Tim Makower, Partner, Allies & Morrison, and Michel Mossessian, Principal, Mossessian & Partners.

Media release

Doha, November 27th 2011 – It would appear the potential of Qatar’s construction industry knows no boundaries. Recent rapid growth includes projects including Doha Festival City mall, which expects a 1.6 million footfall by 2014, and the newly completed Muraikh Tower in the city’s latest urban hub.

Initiatives such as these are cementing the country’s position as the third greatest development market in the GCC region – meaning the future looks bright for the Middle Eastern state.

In fact a study by Research and Markets has suggested the construction industry will grow at a rate of 12 per cent per annum until 2015. This is driven by the surge of investments created by its successful bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2022, and substantiated by the Qatar National Vision for 2030 programme – and its total spending kitty of US$ 800 billion.

This predicted growth rate is of course good news for both regional and global industry solution providers – a selection of which are attending the upcoming 3rd Concepts Middle East platform in Doha. The two-day event is organised by French business information group naseba, and is hosting 150 leading architects, interior designers, design and construction consultants, government bodies and development authorities who are looking to take advantage of the potential within Qatar and the surrounding region.

“Having held two very successful events in 2010 and 2011, we are proud to host the 3rd Annual Concepts Middle East in Doha. This year we are focusing on the Qatar National Vision 2030, which is largely driven by adopting sustainable measures. Our aim is to connect the very best international designers, architects and developers to accelerate business relationships and knowledge-sharing. Given the opportunities in Qatar, this is the perfect venue for these professionals to meet and network,” explained naseba Managing Director, Fabien Faure.

Notable speakers at the event include Kevin Underwood, Vice President and Principal at AECOM Design+Planning; Michel Mossessian, Principal of Mossessian & Partners, and Marie Noelle Swiderski, Managing Director at Blanchard FZ LLC.

With many major architectural and design projects in the pipeline for Doha, including the Lusail Iconic Stadium Building, the Barwa Financial District, and the Heart of Doha Project (which the opening panel discussion will consider on day one), Concepts Middle East 2012 will provide a platform for design professionals and international suppliers to meet in a business-focused environment and establish working relationships.
